From an operational and economic point of view, however, these solutions are often difficult to implement successfully, since 90% of freight transport is still carried out by road and alternative fuels from biomass are available in very limited quantities.<br \/>\nLast week, we put things to the test and, as the first company in Europe, carried out a completely decarbonised multimodal transport operation.<br \/>\nThe 24-tonne load left Verona for north-west Germany. The first mile in Italy was carried out with a BIOlng vehicle, i.e. a vehicle using liquefied methane obtained from biomass from agricultural waste. This technology allows CO2 emissions to be reduced by up to 95%. The vehicle made the first leg from the loading area to the Verona interport, where it was loaded onto a train. The CO2 reduction on the electrified intermodal stretch is calculated at 60%.
