This tool represents a major innovation for the CMR transport sector, enabling the digital management of road transport documents to replace the traditional paper version. The measure is part of the modernisation and simplification objectives set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), accelerating the digital transition in the logistics and transport industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The e-CMR is the digital version of the international CMR consignment note, an essential document in road freight transport between signatory countries of the 1956 CMR Convention. Its electronic version makes it possible to digitise the entire transport document management process, reducing paper use and streamlining information sharing among the various stakeholders involved in the shipment, such as freight forwarders, carriers, customs authorities, terminals, and final consignees. The e-CMR also facilitates real-time tracking of goods, increasing transparency and security across logistics processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GRUBER Logistics has carried out several tests and trials with the e-CMR in recent years, establishing itself among the pioneers in transport management digitalisation. Among the most recent examples, a trial conducted on 23 September 2024 stands out, involving a shipment of pharmaceutical products. The goods were transported from the GRUBER Logistics warehouse in Padua to the Port of Trieste, before continuing on to Turkey. The trial demonstrated how the e-CMR can ensure full interoperability between the electronic systems of all parties involved, including Infoera Srl (developer of the Sinfomar Port Community System), Accudire Srl, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Customs Agency. Key benefits include:\r\n\r\n- <strong>Interoperability<\/strong>: The e-CMR enables direct integration between the IT systems of different supply chain stakeholders, such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), TMS (Transport Management System), and WMS (Warehouse Management System). This allows for smoother data management, eliminating barriers between different IT platforms.\r\n\r\n- <strong>Reduction in Waiting Times<\/strong>: Thanks to document digitalisation, customs clearance procedures and inspections by authorities, such as the Guardia di Finanza, become faster and simpler. Real-time availability of information facilitates the transit of goods through logistics hubs.\r\n\r\n- <strong>Greater Transparency and Security<\/strong>: Digital tracking of documentation allows every stage of the shipment to be monitored, reducing the risk of human error and fraud. Shipment information travels securely and remains accessible to the competent authorities whenever needed.\r\n\r\n- <strong>Sustainability and Cost Reduction<\/strong>: Electronic document management leads to a significant reduction in paper use, contributing to more sustainable logistics and lower management costs. The reduction in Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is particularly notable for businesses, thanks to leaner, more efficient processes.\r\n\r\nLooking to the future, 2026 promises to be a turning point for the logistics sector, as the e-CMR will become mandatory across Europe. This mandatory adoption will ensure that the entire industry aligns with a unified digital system, fostering further improvements in efficiency, transparency, and interoperability. Although this shift requires additional efforts to align the industry, the standardisation and mandatory use of this tool could enable the logistics system to achieve a higher level of coordination and competitiveness, delivering tangible benefits across the entire value chain.\r\n\r\nGRUBER Logistics, through its tests and hands-on experience, has demonstrated that the e-CMR can significantly improve processes, especially in interactions between warehouses, carriers, and ports.
