The Commitment of GRUBER Logistics"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The topic of the so-called &#8220;modal shift&#8221; is a highly controversial subject among transport systems and policy experts.<sup><\/sup><sup><\/sup><sup><\/sup><sup><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the one hand, there is a clear and determined policy actively pursuing<sup><\/sup> modal shift, which involves transitioning from less sustainable transport modes, such as road trans<sup><\/sup>port, to more sustainable ones (such as rail). Both the European Union and individual Member States have estab<sup><\/sup>lished ambitious targets in this regard, such as <sup><\/sup><strong>doubling rail freight transport by 2050<\/strong> (<em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/transport.ec.europa.eu\/transport-themes\/mobility-strategy_en\">Source<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To achieve this goal, numerous national incentives stemming from EU targets aim to promote the increase of rail transport. The Italian <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ramspa.it\/ferrobonus-2023-2026\">Ferrobonus 2023 &#8211; 2026<\/a> is an example, as is the Spanish <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mitma.gob.es\/ministerio\/proyectos-singulares\/prtr\/transporte\/programa-de-apoyo-para-un-transporte-sostenible-y-digital-eco-incentivo-ferroviario\">Railway Eco-incentive<\/a>.<sup><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, on the other hand, there are experts who argue that the concept of &#8220;modal shift&#8221; is more myth than reality.<sup><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While it is true that rail transport has recorded growth in recent ye<sup><\/sup>ars, it is also true that this growth is mainly attributed to the overall increase in transported volumes. This suggests that there is not necessarily a shift toward more sustainable transport modes at the expense of less sustainable ones; rather, there is a parallel increase in both. For rail transport to become truly competitive, modern infrastructure, interoperability, and reliable services along major European corridors are essential.<\/p>\r\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><span class=\"citation-283 citation-284 citation-end-284\">Despite this debate, GRUBER Logistics strongly believes in modal shift.
