GRUBER Logistics and Alpitronic Increase Power for Electric Trucks

Ora/Bolzano – As the end of the year approaches, GRUBER Logistics, together with its partner Alpitronic, has expanded its charging capacity for electric trucks in Germany. The renowned logistics provider and Europe’s leading supplier of high-power charging infrastructure commissioned a so-called hypercharger at the Staufenberg site in 2025. The Cologne branch will follow shortly. With the increasing use of e-trucks – including models with higher payload capacities and vehicles deployed in pre- and post-haulage services for intermodal transport – CO₂ emissions in the supply chain can be significantly reduced.

In the first half of 2025, GRUBER Logistics acquired a 612 hp electric truck for the Staufenberg branch, near Gießen. For this vehicle and other trucks in its steadily growing electric fleet, the company set up a dedicated charging infrastructure at the Hessian site in collaboration with Alpitronic. The Cologne branch has also followed suit: Alpitronic’s HYC 400 Hypercharger was installed here, with commissioning scheduled for the turn of 2025/2026.

“The transition to an electric fleet represents one of the core pillars of our sustainability strategy,” emphasizes Martin Gruber, CEO of GRUBER Logistics. “Thanks to the partnership with Alpitronic, we not only gain access to cutting-edge charging technology, but also benefit from integration into smart energy management systems via dedicated interfaces, thereby optimizing consumption.”

Philipp Senoner, CEO of Alpitronic, adds: “The electrification of logistics can only succeed if charging integrates seamlessly into daily operations — for instance, during loading and unloading or rest and break periods. Our fast-charging solutions are designed precisely for this: reliable and scalable technology capable of making the transition to zero-emission transport both practical and economically viable.”

Manuel Scaramuzza, Executive Director of Logistics Services and Solutions Area at GRUBER Logistics, draws the following comparison: “Building an electric truck fleet and operating it is fundamentally no different from creating a new logistics project. For this reason, we set up a team composed of employees from various business functions, tasked with studying and implementing electrification projects, as well as monitoring the profitability of these investments.”

The collaboration aims to make road freight transport more sustainable through the broader adoption of e-mobility. The Cologne Hypercharger, now nearing commissioning, is designed so that recharged trucks can also be deployed in multimodal logistics chains for pre- and post-haulage legs. Fast charging cycles enable flexible day and night use for different transport missions, as confirmed by initial operational tests.

GRUBER Logistics and Alpitronic, both companies with roots in South Tyrol, also collaborate beyond the logistics group’s German branches. These initiatives include the “Green Corridor” project promoted by the Province of Bolzano to foster transport routes with reduced environmental impact.

Furthermore, both companies are participating in the European research project FLEXMCS, dedicated to the development and implementation of Megawatt charging stations.
