Biofuels such as BioLNG and HVO are renewable fuels obtained from biomass or organic waste.
BioLNG (liquefied biomethane) is derived from the purification and liquefaction of biogas produced from organic waste, while Biodiesel is a liquid biofuel made from vegetable oils and other raw materials of organic origin, and can be blended with conventional fuel or used purely.

HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) is a second-generation biofuel made from vegetable oils or waste fats treated with hydrogen.
This process removes impurities and improves the fuel’s properties, making it similar to fossil diesel but with lower CO₂ and particulate emissions.
It can be used pure or blended into diesel without modifications to diesel engines.
Using an electric vehicle reduces direct emissions of CO₂ and other pollutants compared to an internal combustion vehicle, but the environmental impact depends on the energy mix used to produce the electricity used to power the electric vehicle.
If the energy comes from fossil sources, the overall emissions can still be significant. For a 100 per cent reduction, energy from renewable sources such as solar, wind or hydro must be used.
Emissions from transport activities depend on the quantity of goods transported, as weight increases emissions increase, and the length of the route to the destination, the longer the route the greater the emissions.
They also depend on the type of fuel used. To be certified, emissions must be calculated using the international standard defined by GLEC or ISO 140083.
At GRUBER Logistics, we reduce transport-related emissions through a combination of direct and indirect managing system. While some routes can be directly powered by low-emission fuels such as advanced biofuels, others face infrastructural or geographical limitations.
To ensure a consistent and transparent chain of custody in our overall carbon footprint, we apply a mass balancing approach: sustainable fuels are purchased and used by the Gruber Logistics vehicle fleet and allocated across our entire transport network, including routes where the direct refueling is not yet feasible.
This allows us to maximize the environmental impact of every liter of biofuel used, in line with European sustainability standards and certification schemes.
