An exceptional transport to promote local history
GRUBER Logistics wanted to make its own contribution to a project with strong local resonance: the Bunker Museum in Dobbiaco. Located right next to the state road between San Candido and Dobbiaco, this is the only one of the more than 350 bunkers built in South Tyrol to have been converted into a museum dedicated to what was, until recently, a “closed” border. Over the course of more than 80 years of history, this bunker endured the troubled twentieth century and its world wars unscathed, remaining active until the 1990s, when it was used as a military outpost during the Cold War.
Today, thanks to the work of the Pro-Historia Association, led by museum curator Curt Covi, it is possible to admire this site restored to its former glory, showcased in a museum itinerary that retraces its key milestones. Given its significance for local communities and the South Tyrolean region, GRUBER Logistics offered to sponsor the transport of the tank which, until 1993, formed an integral part of the bunker’s original weaponry and has now finally returned to its original site. The tank was transported by road from Piacenza to Dobbiaco and, given its massive dimensions, required the deployment of a Gruber vehicle dedicated to exceptional transport.

We are grateful to GRUBER Logistics for believing in us and in our young project,” states Curt Covi – “The presence of this tank inside the bunker’s exhibition space will help us visualize how divisive borders were until recently. By doing so, GRUBER Logistics has promoted the European unification project, whose most tangible sign is precisely open borders – a fundamental element not only for a transport company operating internationally, but even more so for us citizens”.
“As a company deeply rooted in the local area, we could not remain indifferent to the project that Mr. Covi is carrying forward relying solely on donations and volunteer help. We are happy to have contributed to such an important cause, ensuring that our region’s history is not forgotten, but rather rediscovered and made accessible to people of all age groups” – said Michael Gruber, head of the GRUBER Logistics Exceptional Transport division, who managed the transport of the tank.
