Steel and glass construction for the “PUMA Bridge”

The latter built a road-crossing bridge, known as the “PUMA Bridge”, in the town of 23,000 inhabitants in Middle Franconia. The bridge connecting the two buildings of the sporting goods manufacturer consists of a total of 140 tonnes of steel and glass, has a length of 85 metres, and is situated above Hans-Ort-Ring.

The project commissioned by PUMA was carried out by Heinrich Lamparter Stahlbau, an industrial construction specialist based in Hesse. Universal Transport was commissioned with the road transport of four bridge segments between Lamparter’s headquarters in Kaufungen (near Kassel) and Herzogenaurach. Not to be taken for granted were the total combination length of 45 metres and navigating the approximately 300-kilometre route, which required precise and meticulous planning.

Universal Transport transported the four segments from Kaufungen to the PUMA site in Herzogenaurach over two different weeks, after which the segments were installed there. Each transport operation took two days, utilizing so-called “adapters”. During the rainy German summer of 2017, as well as in all subsequent seasons, the bridge now allows employees to move between the individual sections of the building without getting their feet wet.
