GRUBER Logistics continues to invest in electromobility

The renowned logistics company GRUBER Logistics is progressively renewing its fleet with sustainable drive vehicles. Since last month, the branch in Staufenberg, near Gießen, has been using a powerful Scania electric truck for its transport operations. The R 450E A4x2NB model, with an output of 612 horsepower and a battery capacity of almost 470 kilowatt-hours, is deployed for a major customer in Hesse. A charging infrastructure for electric vehicles has been installed at the Staufenberg site, supporting both this new vehicle and future electric trucks, as well as vehicles of internal and external visitors.

“The electric truck, delivered to us by the Scania dealership in Haiger at the beginning of March, fits seamlessly into our fleet strategy to reduce CO₂ emissions,” says Michael Blaas, Fleet Innovation Specialist at GRUBER Logistics, commenting on the new arrival in Staufenberg. “We are closely monitoring the rapid evolution of the logistics sector, which in recent years has seen an acceleration in decarbonisation processes, both across the industry and within our company. Thanks to a multi-brand strategy involving partnerships with Scania, Daimler, and Volvo, we are optimising the use of electromobility at GRUBER Logistics.”

With a range of up to 350 kilometres per trip and an expected annual mileage of 100,000 kilometres, the new electric vehicle will help deliver an eco-friendly service to GRUBER Logistics’ customers. With continuous technological developments in electric drives, further performance improvements are expected, helping the South Tyrolean company further reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.

Bernd Lauer, Branch Manager of GRUBER Logistics in Staufenberg, expressed his satisfaction with the modernisation of the site’s fleet and infrastructure: “Thanks to the new 40-tonne Scania, we can fully meet our customers’ growing demand for sustainable road transport. Furthermore, with our in-house charging station powered by green energy, we are more independent from external infrastructure, which is still under development.”

This new acquisition at the Central Hesse branch marks the fourth electric truck for GRUBER Logistics in Germany. Two have been operating at the Kreuztal site since early last year, while another has been in service for Siemens in Leipzig since May 2024. In the company’s home country, Italy, investments in sustainable transport solutions are also underway, with the development of electric trucks in collaboration with Scania and Electrolux.

This investment is part of a broader fleet decarbonisation strategy by GRUBER Logistics, which has already launched several initiatives to introduce electric vehicles in both Germany and Italy.
