JUNA and GRUBER Logistics sign a new agreement on the use of electric vehicles

JUNA, the joint venture founded by Scania and Sennder, has reached an agreement with the South Tyrolean logistics company GRUBER Logistics on the use of e-trucks. JUNA’s “e-truck-as-a-service” model enables GRUBER Logistics to flexibly address its customers’ needs by utilizing sustainable transport solutions directly within the supply chain.

JUNA’s business model provides electric trucks as turnkey solutions, encompassing all services such as repair, maintenance, insurance, and electrification support. The “e-truck-as-a-service” model, where the electric truck is operated without requiring a direct purchase, significantly lowers the barrier to entry for logistics companies in heavy goods transport.

Currently, the higher costs of zero-emission technologies for logistics companies require a long-term strategy, such as transport contracts lasting up to five years, which are rarely accepted by shippers. Ultimately, this situation delays or prevents investments in zero-emission solutions within the heavy haulage sector. JUNA’s service makes this risk more manageable and plannable for logistics companies. For this reason, GRUBER Logistics is also making use of it.

Stefan Knapp, Executive Director Fleet at GRUBER Logistics, welcomes the new cooperation with JUNA: “Part of GRUBER Logistics’ sustainability strategy is to remain constantly open to new solutions for the decarbonization of heavy freight transport. Thanks to JUNA’s flexible e-truck model, we can swiftly offer interested customers a solution to cut emissions directly within the supply chain. In addition to the rapid deployment option compared to purchasing an e-truck, the flexible pricing model is also a clear advantage for us.”

Matteo Oberto, CEO of JUNA, stated: “The electrification of heavy transport is happening now. However, both transport companies and shippers need support to successfully navigate the transition to zero-emission solutions. Through our e-truck-as-a-service model, we are breaking down the barriers to adopting electric vehicles. We are particularly impressed by GRUBER Logistics’ commitment to sustainability and are thrilled to support their ongoing efforts to deliver the benefits of e-trucks to their customers.”

Due to a short-term increase in demand for battery-electric vehicles, the solution proved to be a perfect complement to GRUBER’s standard fleet procurement strategy, and JUNA’s e-truck offering is already on the road for GRUBER Logistics’ customers. Specifically, this involves transport operations for an FMCG customer, which in turn supplies its own clients in Western Germany using two 40-tonne e-trucks.

The partnership with JUNA fits seamlessly into GRUBER Logistics’ broader fleet decarbonization strategy, which envisions the progressive expansion of electric vehicles across heavy transport as well.
