Infrastructure gaps bridged with special trailers

Thanks to Universal Transport, a freight train shunting locomotive owned by a private railway company was able to return to service at the end of September. The locomotive had been stranded in the German port of Emmelsum since June, following the collapse of the Emscher bridge near Dinslaken due to heavy rain, which cut off the North Rhine-Westphalia port from the rail network.

As the new bridge is not expected to be completed before 2024, the locomotive was transported by road to the nearest rail siding. The Universal Transport team loaded the cargo, which measured approximately 14.7 metres long, 4.2 metres high, 3 metres wide and weighed 85 tonnes, onto a low loader specially designed for the transport of rail vehicles. During the night of 19-20 September, it travelled eight kilometres by road to the port of Wesel. There, the shunting locomotive was able to transfer directly from the trailer onto the rails and resume operations.
