Carola Bridge, Dresden: Gruber Logistics Reopens Inland Waterway Transit After Collapse
The Elbe River is one of Germany’s most important inland waterways and plays a central role in the transport sector. Following the partial collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden in late 2024, vessel traffic along this section was suspended. However, since February 3, the affected stretch can be navigated once again and, since February 18, even without prior authorization, although traffic through the critical point in Dresden will initially be regulated using timed one-way operations, both upstream and downstream.
Gruber Logistics has achieved a major milestone: it was the first European company to arrange a transport following the reopening of this previously closed section of the vital waterway. The coupled convoy, consisting of a motorized cargo vessel and a push barge, carried a 221-tonne power plant generator in addition to fertilizer, traveling from the Czech Republic to Belgium!
